“The Dice Player” is a composition for voice, Santur, viola,  Zarb and Bass Clarinet. The text is a part of a long poem by Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish, entitled (Der Würfelspieler  ). It has a big existential question about   the concept of   identity, who am I? How the chance plays a big role in shaping our lives and our destiny. The work is divided into five sections. Section I is an instrumental introduction.  In  the second section  the singing enters , this section  is based on long tones by the  voice   with  scattered tones  in the accompanying to showing  a lot of questioning and  loss  . The third section depends on vigorous rhythm like a folklore dance, with singing in al Bayati Makam. Section IV depends on a technique of speech singing, with a lot of musical theater features. In  this section there is a mention   again on  how  the  chance has  a big role in shaping our lives and our destiny .The  last section depends on the Whole-tone  technique with  Arabic Makam influence. In this section the existential question will return once again through the text and music. This work is experimental in dealing with the Arabic phonetic and links this with the semantic aspect of the Arabic word. Create accompany music for Arabic singing has features contemporary music,   that will add something new to this singing. Arabic Maqamat are present in this work, such as Al Hijaz Kar, Bayati and the Hijaz, but used in an unconventional way. (Hassan Taha)
