A special result of instrumental sound databases like contimbre is that it is difficult or even impossible to compose orchestral scores to be performed with real musicians. In the case of sadedz, cascades of individual sounds from various instruments and various playing techniques are triggered by the keyboard players at the beginning. The sound function alone determines the selection. Each key on the keyboard is assigned an individual sample that is taken from the bulk of the contimbre database. The assignments are even continuously renewed so that the keys play a different sample each time they are pressed again.
In the second part of Sadedz, the keyboard players imitate the sound landscapes of brass ensembles by playing shifting clusters. Again, each key is assigned an individual sample, including regularly exchanged samples. This time, however, phoneme orchestrations, micrototal shifts or spatial sound translations predominate as the principle for sound selection. All in all, the structures of the work could also be described as “sound unity and sound masses”. Th.Hummel
