about

Vermächtnis is the first work in which i made an attempt with an unusual, that is, above all, asymmetrical setting. A mezzo-soprano faces six percussionists. Taken together, the instrumentation of the percussionists parts are again simulations of phonemes but are never audible as such. In addition, as a composer, I continuously put additional conditions on the orchestration of the percussionist ensemble. This means that the similarity to phonemes decreases. On the other hand, the form and strategy of the work as a result of orchestrations can be planned much better through additional conditions.
A virtual percussion ensemble is also used in Vermächtnis. Working with virtual sample orchestras that effortlessly perform every instrumental part tempted me to occasionally disregard instrumental limits. Changing mallets is often not given enough time, but polyphonic lines for a percussionist can also be difficult to perform. This creates a certain density that is necessary for the expression of the work. They are typical features of the new complexity style. in this style, however, it is accepted that the interpreter masters his or her part only imperfectly. In Vermächtnis, however, I produced a hyper-realistic recording. You can listen to this recording here. In the case of a performance, however, there is the possibility of supporting the real percussionists by playing the part alternately from the performer and the hyper-realistic recording. This can significantly alleviate the difficulties. Th.Hummel
